Pineapple

Pineapple is a vegetable that is preferred all over the world both as a fruit and as a juice. Its homeland is Brazil and Paraguay on the American continent. However, since it is a good source from a commercial point of view, it is cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. Among the largest growers are India, Malaysia, Thailand Dec.

The pineapple plant generally has a height of about 90 cm. It is evergreen. The flowers are reddish-violet in color and have a conical head. The fruits are large, fragrant and delicious.

The warm, humid weather conditions in the Mediterranean, Aegean and Marmara regions in our country are very favorable for pineapple cultivation. The ideal temperature for growth is 28-30 C. The best quality is achieved at 22-24 C during the fruit binding period.  When the air temperature drops below 20 C, the absorption of minerals weakens., the transport of metabolites stops. When it falls to 15 C, plant growth is seriously stunted. Low temperature, little sunlight and constant shade can cause damage.
